On December 2, 2018, approximately one hundred people marched along the Verdugo River in Pontevedra, Spain from Ponte Comboa to Ponte Inferno—the location of the hydroelectric dam. The concession for this dam expired 16 months ago and now, the association, A Rente do Chan, want to see this 11 meter high dam removed. The association and others recognize the implications this dam has on ecosystem of the river.
Therefore, last October, the collective presented Augas de Galicia (the Water Agency responsible for the management of rivers within that region) with the application to begin the expiration process of this barrier which could end in the removal of it. With the application under review and a meeting with the director of Augas de Galicia, the group is hopeful that the dam be retired and taken down.
