Live from Slovakia! Join us to celebrate a river restoration success on Starohorský Creek
Mark your calendars for March 14th at 10:30 AM CET!
WFMF and WWF’s offices in the Netherlands and Slovakia co-organize the 30-minute online event together with the Slovak Water Management Enterprise and Slovak Angling Union. We invite you to join us for a special live broadcast on the DRE YouTube channel directly from the beautiful Slovakian Starohorský Creek.
Learn about this ambitious project!
We’re thrilled to share the incredible journey of restoring the natural beauty and vitality of Starohorský Creek, nestled near the picturesque village of Staré Hory in the sub catchment of the Hron River, in Slovakia.
The step from stone with a wooden sill, which once hindered the flow of the creek, was successfully removed in November 2023, marking a significant milestone in our river restoration efforts, opening up 28km of newly accessible river habitat.
Learn about the inception of this ambitious project, which dates to 2021 with the initiation of the ORP initiative. Despite initial challenges and hurdles, including the need for extensive communication with stakeholders, the project documentation was finally brought to life, leading to the successful removal of the barrier in late 2023.
Join us and many special guests on the online event next week!
We count with the participation of Mr. Gajdoš, the mayor of Staré Hory municipality, Mr. Peťko, nature protection county official, archaelogist Mr. Kvietok, and many more involved!
If you missed the live event, you can watch the recording!
