Dam Removal Award 2024 – (Carpathian Biosphere Reserve, Wetlands International)

The Dam Removal Award 2024, organized by Wetlands International Europe, was announced. Ukraine won after removing three dams and reconnecting 200 km of rivers in the western Tiza catchment. Led by the Danube-Carpathian Programme and the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve, the project restored the Kvasnyi, Bilyi, and Bohdan Rivers, highlighting the benefits of river reconnection for biodiversity and communities, even during wartime.
