The Drentsche Aa, Dutch free-flowing river that became biodiversity hotspot
The World Fish Migration Foundation & Wetlands International, on behalf of the Dam Removal Europe Coalition, invite you to a 1h30 international webinar seeking to mainstream and scale up dam removal in river basins Rhine, Meuse, Scheldt and Ems in view of the proposed 2030 EU targets for river restoration.
May 23rd, 2023 from 13:00-14:30 Central European Time (CET)
The Free Flow webinar series focuses on the question of how dam removal is understood as a river restoration tool and applied in relation to the new European biodiversity target of freeing up at least 25’000 km of river stretches until 2030.
In this second part of the series, we will hear from the countries that share the river basins of the Rhine, Meuse (Maas), Scheldt (Escaut), and Ems as well as from the respective river commissions, on how they are moving forward on this goal and where possible bottlenecks lie. The discussion is informed by the results of our Free Flow Survey that focused on this topic.
We invite river and restoration practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and students, as well as road planning, maintenance, design and construction experts to join! This webinar is made possible by the World Fish Migration Foundation, the European Center for River Restoration, the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Fishery, The Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management and Rijkswaterstaat.
