We are thrilled to announce another live event celebrating the partial removal of the Holstenkoski Dam on the River Aneriojoki in Southern Finland. Join us as Jarkko Leka from Valonia tells us more about this restoration project aimed at reconnecting migration routes and spawning grounds for migratory fish (i.e., salmon and trout) while also improving the area for recreational opportunities like fishing tourism.
We invite you to join us for a special live broadcast on the Dam Removal Europe YouTube channel to learn more about this river restoration effort and its impact on local biodiversity.

Carried out in spring 2024, the partial Holstenkoski Dam removal, funded by the Open Rivers Programme, is the first of its kind in southwest Finland—a region vital for the conservation of threatened migratory fish species.
This restoration project is a key step in revitalising the Kiskonjoki-Perniönjoki watershed, home to the River Aneriojoki. It also has the potential to guide future political decisions on biodiversity, ecosystem restoration, and similar dam and river restoration initiatives in the area.
