Dam Removals in Sweden
Swedish government is also making a great effort updating their obstacle database (over 10,000 obstacles along the whole country) and our findings show that Sweden has removed over 1,600 obstacles in Swedish rivers (Länsstyrelsen Jönköping, 2017). One of the most impacting and recent action in Sweden was done by a EU LIFE+ project, Remibar (Remediation of Migratory Barriers in Streams) and the Västerbotten County Board, where 304 obstacles for fish (culverts, weirs and dams) were removed between 2011 and 2016.
